That's right, eating zongzi is a staple of Dragon Boat Festival. It is said that this custom was due to Qu Yuan too.

这个我知道,当年屈原投汨罗江自尽,百姓为了不让江中鱼虾把屈原吃掉,就将食物用竹叶包裹投入江中,后来就演变成今天我们吃的粽子了。

This I do know. At the time Qu Yuan committed suicide by throwing himself in the Miluo river. The local people wrapped food in bamboo leaves and threw it in the river to prevent the fish and shrimps from eating his body, and these evolved into the zongzi we eat today.

That's the legend, but I think this tale has not been proven. As well as eating zongzi, there are also some places where people drink realgar wine or eat eggs boiled in medicinal herbs to ward off epidemics.

端午节的时候,有些人家里会包粽子,可是因为包粽子有点麻烦,而且一次要包很多,所以越来越少人自己包粽子了,现在大部分的人是买粽子来吃。

During Dragon Boat Festival, some families will make sticky rice dumplings. Yet because making sticky rice dumplings can be quite complicated, and you have to make many dumplings at once, there are less and less people making their own sticky rice dumplings. Most people just buy ready-made dumplings to eat.
