My father's a big guy, to get there would be quite a bit of effort for him. I wanted to go instead, but he just wouldn't let me. I just had to give into my insistent father. I looked over at my father, in his black cloth cap, black knee-length robe and dark green cotton-padded jacket, teetering his way toward the railway and lowering his way down there, which wasn't too difficult. Yet, the difficult part was climbing up to the platform after crossing the tracks. He tightly placed his hands on the top of the platform, shrinking back his legs, his heavy body tilted slightly to the left. The sight was of a many trying his very best. As I took this scene in, looking at his back, my tears rushed down my face. I rushed to wipe away my tears, afraid of being seen by him, or by any others. When I look out again, he was already on his way back, carrying those bright tangerines.

As he was crossing the tracks, he first placed the tangerines on the platform. He then slowly lowered himself to the tracks and picked the tangerines back up to walk over. When he got to my side of the track, I rushed to help him. As he and I got back onto the train, he placed all the tangerines on my fur coat. He patted the dirt off his jacket, and looked very satisfied. After a moment, he said to me: ”I am leaving now. Remember to write to me! ”. I looked over as he walked out. After just a few steps, he looked back at me and said "Go back in, your things are unattended". Once he disappeared into the bustling crowd and I could find him no more, I came in and sat down. My tears came again.

I wonder when I shall see him again.

It's been over two years since I last saw my father and the picture that has been burned into my memory is the silhouette of his back. That winter, my grandmother passed away and my father was let off from his job. Those really were times where bad things came in pairs. I travelled from Beijing to Xu Zhou to meet up with my father, so that we could travel home together to attend the funeral. When I saw my father in Xu Zhou and the house in totally disarray, memories of my grandmother came flooding back. Tears stream down my face. My father said: "It is what is is. There's no need to be sad. There's always a way out."

Resentfully, I went back to my dormitory. I thought to myself that searching for this vision of a girl in such a sea of people really was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Perhaps my lucky chance hadn't come after all...

I'm not sure why, but when I got the school lake, I felt a weird chill. Subconsciously, I pulled my jacket around tighter. Suddenly, I noticed the back of a girl as she was slowly walking along the lakeside in front of me. A unexplainable impulse came over me and I started walking towards her, gradually getting closer and closer. As I approached, I saw that it was her! That elegant view of her back. That raven-black hair in a braid! Then, when I got closer, I realized her head was hung low and she was sobbing.

I boarded the bus as usual and found a window seat. I sat down, got out my earphones and was getting ready to put them in. Then, suddenly, I realized there was a girl sitting one seat ahead of me. Even though I was sitting behind her, just the elegant view of her back was enough to draw me into an unending daydream. In particular, it was her raven-black hair. It was pulled back into a single braid with a red hair-tie fastened onto the end. It was so unique yet refined. After the bus had gone only two stops, she got off. That time around, I couldn't sleep at all. Until the very last stop I still was guessing at what she might look like.

The same seat and same clothes. Same delicate view of her back, same red hair-tie and braid. A few times, I tried to pass by her so I could take a look at her face, but she always seemed to know what was up and turn her head to the other side. Is it possible that she knew what I was trying to do? In my head I was secretly thinking: ‘Next time I take the bus, I’ll sit up front. Even if there's no seats, I'll just stand there. Oh, I got it! I can wait for her at the bus stop'. Then I'll definitely have an chance to strike up a conversation and ask for her numer or something.

“Hee hee, hey there. Your backpack fell off.” A beautiful girl appeared in front of me. “Oh, sorry. I was listening to music and fell asleep.” I picked up my bag and looked out the car window. “Huh? The shuttle bus hasn't started.” “There's still 3 minutes.” She giggled and said. As she was speaking, she sat down in the seat in front of me. Looking at her from behind, she was so elegant; her hair pulled back into a single braid.
