a bit more : In the Cantodic 茄汁 (ke4*2 zap1) is used for KETCHUP not for tomato juice (but this word can only be used in Spoken Cantonese or informal Cantonese writing) http://www.cantonese.sheik.co.uk/dictionary/words/2067/

I'm maybe too curious but I would like to know when South China made the transition between Fish sauce and Tomato juice. Before the 18 century 茄汁 was a fish sauce in China. Nowadays, 茄汁 is a tomato juice. Is it the british influence or the american culture ?

Amber, Once again, sorry for the digression but I've just checked the english, chinese and french Wikipedia and I found that : -there was no tomatos in the Ketchup before the 19s century -before the tomato ingredient Ketchup was a fish sauce -this fish sauce called Ketchup was brought from asia (South China and Indonesia) by the english -In South China (Cantonese dialect) Ketchup was called Ké Tsiap (茄汁) and 茄 didn't had any link with 番茄 (tomato was only export from south america to Europe by the spanish at the end of the 17 century). ... another big loop that started in China ! ; )

Could you please confirm the difference between 番茄酱 and 番茄汁 ? 番茄汁 is the result of pressed tomatos 番茄酱 is 番茄汁 with addition of other ingedients.

Something funny here : the trampoline is called 蹦床 and bungee jumping is called 蹦极 So you can "jump up" or "jump down". ;)

That's a very good idea to introduce the vocab of this sort of chinese movies. Next step on the dark side should be the triad and gang vocab. Btw you missed an important word in this lesson : 吸毒 : using drugs 吸毒的 : drugs user

I still haven't seen this movie. But I know that it's the remake of a famous HK trilogy. This remake surprisingly won 4 Hollywood Oscars.

Latian, Time zone are always related to cities (except GMT). It helps to avoid time-mistake in USA, Europe, Russia, Brazil and Australia. China and India are the exceptions.
