When we come to practice, you always get us to recite mantras at the same pace as our breathing. Are all yoga meditations like this?

Not all of them are. What we're doing is oral meditation, also known as mantra meditation. Mantra in Sanskrit can be divided into the roots "man", meaning "spirit", and "tra", meaning "draw away".

You really are quite perceptive. It is those special sounds, the yoga words that you have to focus your attention on to be able to gradually overcome ignorance and passionate impulse, and get into a good and serene state of mind.

No. We also have seated meditation and candle meditation, but there isn't a more direct method than mantra meditation to see results.
