On a related topic.

中国的羊肉串儿是最好。

Chinese barbeque lamb kabobs are the best.  I like buying the stuff from the vendors on the street.  Choose carefully.

Semi-related:  My wife is from the Philippines and she buys chicken butts by the dozen and fries them up.  It's comfort food.  I'll stick with mashed potatoes.

Ken, I like the way the lesson was constructed with a first pass of the dialogue up front. Please keep the accents coming.

Wow! I forgot about 大盘鸡。You guys just made my day. The versions I've had were quite spicy as well. If I remember, a couple of times we ate it in 2 stages: 1) Eat chicken and potatoes family style from the big plate. 2) Then they mixed the remainder of the plate with noodles and created a noodle soup. 真好吃!!

Auntie68, When I lived in Singapore, I often heard people say things like $100 over dollars. Did they mean a little over $100 dollars (as I thought) or were they borrowing the Chinese construct to mean $100 to $199? Thanks, Bill M.

My favorite is when the vendor shoves whatever he's selling in your face and says: "you say how much". I've found: Wo3 mei1 you3 qian1. 我没有钱....also works well.

I love Qing Wen. Thanks. Question. If I'm trying to say "If you were me (in this situation) what would you do?" I would normally say: 我应该怎么办?but I want the listener to take my view point. Can I say: 如果你是我,你会怎么办? Thanks, Bill M.

If you want a drink of water anytime soon, best to say: Wo yao4 he shui.

Call me odd: I like Bai jiu, but I do not like scarry movies. I've drunk mayors (mostly vice-mayors...and their designated drinkers) of certain Chinese cities under the table, but I'd rather burn real money than watch Asian horror movies.
