Do you mean, for example today at Wimbledon: Jie Zheng and or Zheng Jie....with the zh mispronouced in both cases? Not to mention ji vs. jie?
(just read the comments above, and yes I may be working on a 2 day delay, but we're going to have fun with the US media's ....how can I put this politely....total meltdown with the Chinese Language.

I listened directly to the dialogue a couple of times. I can only guess this is a younger brother's questioning mode.

June 28, 2008 at 1:34 AMThanks for explaining the phrase: 知道了; zhi1 dao4 le; "got it".
I'd heard it before and incorrectly translated it literally.
Can I say:
我现在知道了。
I've got it now?

June 28, 2008 at 12:51 AMruyide,
Maybe "wo3 bu4 xiang3 yao4" would work better.
Also, I noticed a mistake on my earlier post above. It should read, Wo3 mei2 you3 qian2. 我没有钱: I don't have any money.

June 26, 2008 at 8:04 AMRegarding 海龟 and 海归。
There is a story about 青蛙和海龟:井底之蛙 jing3 di3 zhi1 wa1.
The turtle is worldly while the frog is sheltered in his own world.
I'm wondering if there is a play on words.

June 24, 2008 at 11:14 AMDear siciliazhang:
I understand your sentiments. My family has a dog that is treated as a member if the family. I would never eat a family pet.
Fact: certain animals are raised for food.
In some countries, dogs are raised for food.
I happened to be in a place and a time where it made sense to eat dog a few times.
入乡随俗。
Gotta go with the flow.
Best regards, Bill M.

June 23, 2008 at 9:33 AMPoor 老王.
老王,我们支持你。This line is the kiss of death in the US.
The knives would coming out before the new boss arrived.
Is it done differently in China?
