June 17, 2007 at 10:55 PMstirling always go with jenny's pronounciation; it is xiang1 not shang1; even though ken is terrific, his tones and sounds aren't as precise as john pasdan's

June 17, 2007 at 3:34 PMClarence John's tones and pronounciation are extraordiarily and exceedingling accurate. Trust me on this one. I doubt that he is uncertain of his tones. He is the non-native speaker to emulate. As terrific as Ken is, his tones are often imprecise, incorrect.

June 15, 2007 at 8:13 PMCPod, I've always pronounced the "qi2" in bing qi lin as "qi4." It must be a Taiwan variant, no?

June 14, 2007 at 8:41 PMI like the idea of an action series, a mercenary with a heart of gold! Something along the lines of Chow Yun Fat's character in John Woo's "The Killer." Perhaps Zhang Liang gets despondent, loses himself in an alcoholic binge, then becomes an assassin for hire, buidling tremendous wealth and shows up mysteriously one day in Australia and woos Lili back as...Lord Zhang...or something noble like that! What da ya think?

June 13, 2007 at 3:38 PMBrokensword, It's "Memories" by Andrew Lloyd Webber from "Cats." I thought it was apropos the mood of the lesson. It added a visceral punch.

June 18, 2007 at 1:57 AMfran1942, John does have a nice low-key manner. Clarence, he may be more mindful of his speech on the lessons because it is a lesson and thus naturally lowers his voice for clarity's sake. We all have a tendency to speak differently without realizing it depending on with whom we speak. I wonder what John's explanation would be?
