Maybe that kind of scary atmosphere can subconsciously stimulate the secrets in people's hearts and create terror. The suspense in scary movies can also envelop the audience. Japanese movies also display very distinctive traditions of Japanese and Eastern mysticism. The stars are often pretty or coquettish girls, both beautiful and scary. While they are often cruel and evil, they can also make people empathize and feel sorry for them. The power of the evil in Japanese movies hints at the darkness in people's hearts. So even though they aren't so gory that you want to puke, the movies can make people feel fear and unease in their spirit. It's unadulterated psychological torture. We should say that it is terror in the truest sense of the word.

Whoa, just hearing about it is scary enough. Lots of girls don't even dare to watch such dark, scary stuff. But the weird thing is for some people, the less they dare to watch a movie, the more they want to watch it. I've heard that lots of scary movies don't have a memorable plot, just gore and exaggerated, scary scenes. What's the point of watching those kinds of movies?

说实在的我看的恐怖片也不算多，没有太多的发言权。不过据我了解，有别于好莱坞依赖特效和血腥暴力的做法。日本恐怖片除了制造视觉恐怖，还利用故事和角色来制造心理恐怖，让人从心底里感到毛骨悚然。

shuōshízàide wǒ kàn de kǒngbùpiānr yě bù suàn duō ，méiyǒu tài duō de fāyánquán 。bùguò jù wǒ liǎojiě ，yǒubiéyú Hǎoláiwù yīlài tèxiào hé xuèxīng bàolì de zuòfǎ 。Rìběn kǒngbùpiānr chúle zhìzào shìjué kǒngbù ，hái lìyòng gùshi hé juésè lái zhìzào xīnlǐ kǒngbù ，ràng rén cóng xīndǐ lǐ gǎndào máogǔsǒngrán 。

To be honest I haven't seen too many scary movies, either. So I don't have the right to say all that much. But as far as I can see, the difference is in the fact that Hollywood depends on special effects and blood and guts. Japanese movies not only create visual creepiness, they also use plot and perspective to create psychological terror, so that you feel chilled to the bone.
