OK. So first of all we have to understand a concept. The concept that vocabulary is the repository of a language. According to Noam Chomsky's theory lexicon, the lexicon is the brain's internal dictionary, a repository.

You're a quick learner! Yes, words themselves, in our brains, are simply carriers of modules of data. The amount of data behind each word is quite substantial, and the saying "vocabulary is everything in language", was proposed by the giant of the linguistics field, Noam Chomsky, back in the 1980s.

Old Mr Chomsky in his 1986 book 'The Knowledge of Language: Its Nature, Origin and Use' proposed the most important principle of contemporary syntactic research - the projection principle! The projection principle states that lexical structure, this repository of data in the brain, contains all the data, and must be represented categorically at every syntactic level.
