This may help a bit, I hope. Nothing wrong with your statement. However, 順口 is the essence of good translation. In other words, go with the flow. That comes with speaking often, practice makes perfect.

February 19, 2014 at 10:16 PM上海人說上海話,there is nothing wrong with that picture. Very much like 四川人說四川話,增加親切感。 However, it would be very rude when there are other people present who do not understand the particular 方言,that would be considered social disgrace.
As far as 幼儿园being criticized, there is another aspect we overlooked, they are little kids who came to pre-schools for the first time in their Tender ages. A little 母語make them feel at home, understand what is planned for them to do, especially some of them may not have heard mandarin at home. Does anybody remember how scary to be left all alone with strangers the first day in schoo?

January 23, 2014 at 2:03 AMSo what is your first language? If I may ask? By any chance, same with Dali's? One of my favorite artists...I can spend all day in his museum properly named as "Salvador Dali Museum" in St Petersburg, Florida .
Right, 靑年is a noun, 青green adj, 年 year, noun. so, green year is young age, young age = widely used as young man, for female gender 女青年。

January 23, 2014 at 1:16 AMRosa to rosa,
The correction to the Chinese phrase above, I meant 言歸正傳: translated literarily -- back to the subject matter. For those who may like to use this in the conversation when key subject is drifting away. Formal yet popular expression.

January 8, 2014 at 4:13 PMTry this one: fate is cruel when a single young man is aging by the day. Softer: life is tough with older single men.
Human being is not a lone being, select a soul-mate to drink tea together, to share the same loaf of bread. Life is as simple as you make it. Or vice versa. VV: 反之亦然 in Chinese.

January 5, 2014 at 8:17 AM首先給大家拜陽曆年,happy Gregorian new year (vs 陰曆年)。去了加州八天這才回來,去時從Houston,TX 轉機,囘來經過Phoenix, Arizona transfer,佛州最近也不正常的冷,50F度,南加州John Wayne airport 很温暖,speaking of romanticism, John Wayne 在機杌場上的cowboy actual size portrait 很能把你(or 妳)帶囘the disappearing frontier, so called the Wild Wild West . 不過it is universal phenomenon as well, in my opinion and observation. I also teach line-dancing in the States besides Chinese language, my impression is, there are more girls than guys on any dance floor, unsure it is due to girls are more willing to try new things (steps),make fool of themselves than boys who need a beer or two to feel loosen-up. Wish you ladies and gentlemen the best 2014 year, good health and wealth, mostly find a soul mate with common interest, common ground globally.

December 12, 2013 at 1:46 AMHi rich,
The above mentioned phrases are called colloquialism. 干淨,漂亮 yes, you may emphasize by duplicating the characters; however, 美美麗麗(my iPad has no simplified 手寫) is not commonly used. Why? No set rules just like colloquial English coming with various forms. More often than not they are informal, conversational. But it is not necessarily the indication of being uneducated. On the contrary, many well-educated use them whenever, wherever fit. More examples: 髙髙興興去看電影,to the movie happily; 他們嘻嘻哈哈在聊天;那女孩哭哭涕涕說亇沒完。 if you do not approach a girl to say: 妳很美麗( sounds too formal, too seriously in Chinese), you are right. Instead, the comfort-sense verbal language is "妳今天好漂亮啊!"
Thus 美麗is formal, found in writing; 漂亮is less formal, therefore you can say : 她今天穿得漂漂亮亮的,是有重要約會嗎?hope this may help somewhat. Anybody likes to speak Chinese deserves a satisfactory answer from a supportive Chinese. Best wishes from sunshine state ^_^

November 14, 2013 at 6:06 PMHi 曌,I found your Chinese name fascinating. Just want to compliment you for your courage to adopt such a personal ID. Tang empress Wu Ze Tien is considered the pioneer women liber, way ahead of hers and our time. She made up such a word, definitely has no issue in her self-esteem, self-sustaining...
By the way, I, a chinese, married to a Canadian living in the States. He is super nice guy.
The world has become smaller.
From 武則天 to 髙宗玉 is only an email away.

March 3, 2014 at 12:16 AMI have a French Canadian husband, so I am more than happy to tell you about 罚單, it's a formal way to call the official paper for violating traffic rules. 罚 is penalty, fa2 ; 单 den1, the sheet. In the States, "I got a ticket" definitely does not mean the ticket to the theater. O Canada, salute to you.
My husband's Chinese name is 衞青雲,衛is based on Vallieres
Oscar night here right this moment, must go.
