For the sentence: "Ke3jian4 hai2 shi4 bei4 ai4 hao3" Can you also say: "Ke3jian4 hai2 shi4 bei4 ai4 bi3jiao4 hao3" The "bi3jiao4" added to show a comparison ?

Another unique structure in Chinese that is interesting is the two different ways to say "By the way"..."Shun bian shuo yixia" (if you are making a statement) and "Shun bian wen yixia" (if you are asking a question)....

Just a note for the Expansion section (for most lessons): The roll-over pinyin for 别 is missing.

For second tone practice, I use the Canadian expression "eh". In response to Jenny's question, I don't memorize tones. I just try to mimic the total pronunciation ( Initial + Final + Tone).

Thanks for another great lesson Jenny & John. I have a question concerning negation. Here's two sentences from the lesson: 没多少 (mei2 duo1shao3) 没多大 (mei2duo1da4) Jenny also gives an example: 不怎么样 (bu4 zen3me5yang4) Can we use 没 (mei2) in this sentence instead of 不 (bu4) ? Conversely, can we use 不 (bu4) in the first two sentences instead of 没 (mei2) ?

In the following sentence: "ken3dıng4 shı4 wang4 zai4 chu1zu1che1 shang4 le!" What is the function of "zai4" ? There is already "shang4" (to indicate "on" the taxi) and so the "zai4" seems to be redundant ? Thanks !

Great lesson. I've had a couple of similar experiences. (hair in the food, foreign objects thrown by a kid at another table that landed in my plate etc...) The most recent one was at a Chinese restaurant. I ordered tea with my meal. The fuwuyuan forgot to bring the tea but still charged me for it. When I complained, she said it was my fault for "not reminding her". I only wish this lesson would have come out a few months ago ! Sure would have been fun to practice some of the choice vocab. with the mei suzhi de ren.
