hua1jiao1[花椒]:translated to bastard peppers in our family ..... but we love them, they kill our tase buds every time!!! gets the chili freaks every time..

I find Shanghai food very bland, and not exciting compaed to manyof the other cuisine.

"Shanghai hong shao rou" look very much like the pork from North China, they love the fat in the cold winter along with the hot pots, like tonight is going to be -14 degrees !!!! back to Shanghai quick !!

Bazza

Re.......

It does effect some, I have a stamp-printing program that will no longer work as it can't do £ (pound) signs. I also have a English dictionary program that now has stray Chinese characters in some of the definitions which shouldn't be there.

It will do this in W2000 & Xp if you set control panel to PRC also the daes will print in Chinese in word documents.

I run NJ Star commuicator in Chinese mode to see all characters on QQ & WEB. But need to paste QQ text into NJ Star WP, before using in some applications; NJStar WP also gives e the pinyin of he text an helps mewith learning the Chinese text

Its not the subway I saw in Shanghai in August !! we could not move and it was out of peak period, Had to fight to get out of the train as those boarding shoved their way in !!! peoplewere sceaming to get off !!!

Most of the English signs and maps have gone from the stations ....Took a while to find the ENGLISH touch pad on the ticket machine !!

The trains do run to time and are cheap to use, it is a shame they do not operate late at night...must use taxi's to get home from the clubs.

BUD is not beer !!! its rom the USA

Harbin breweries are real BEER as with all North China beers, you can get it in many restaurants in Shanghai and other cities.

Most local Chinese beers are god, there are 100's around. I will not drink Imported makes of beer in China!! If nothing else  available I will drink Becks made in China.

Bar prices in Shanghai (western style) range from  20 kuai up to 60 Kuai for a "pot".pint.

In the Chinese clubs,KTV, and pubs they sell 6 bottles for around 100 Kuai or by the bucket full of bottles, Chinese red wine at around 15 to 200 Kuai. 白酒, white wine Baijiu 100 to 500 Kuai

At local shop a large bottle canbe purchased for 8 Kuai hot or cold.

There are lotsof BAR games toplay and get drunk and blow yur money !! ha ha great fun, some simle childre games to real hard games tofollow.

Enjoy Ganbei !!!
