i';m surprised the hasn'nt been more discussion about the cultural thing here. Personally I'd be furious if peo0plew were scaring my kid when I was out of the room, but again, this is seen as toughening them up around here.

niscastillo, If you click on the 'Dialogue' tab in red, you can read, practice and do a lot more.

Piers, You've made it very clear that the 'massive problem' with the ChinesePod approach does not suit you and that you prefer Tai Da. To each his own.

@user20293, I've written a lot about lexis over the last year on the the blog. See here, for example http://blog.praxislanguage.com/2006/03/15/the-lexical-approach-and-chinesepod/ If you type 'lexis' in the blog search you'll find nore on it. It may seem obvious that teaching chunks of language is the way to go but most teachers actually use other approaches - grammar, for example, or by separating words as individual items.

I like the vocab in this lesson - talking about possibilities and speculations, etc. Business speak tends to be very rich in lexical density lots of juicy phrases, collocations, and chunks of language. Learning to recognize these is helpful if you work in that milieu, while learning to use them can make you sound very fluent. Lexis rocks!

Azerdocmom, Really nice lesson. Have you ever considered taking up teaching full time?

azerdocmom, Sounds good, but I can't access the video. It says we need a sender's friend request...

Steven says '我现在想放屁'. Never let it be said that ChinesePod doesn't 'bring out the best' in people.

I guess I'm old enough not to find fart jokes funny any more but Jenny and I had some real fun in the studio with this baby. So, here's my question: Who can guess who provided the real sound effect for this one? (a)Jenny (b)Aric (c)John
