If this type of questioning/conversation is not delivered by your interested Chinese "better-half", then your Chinese "better-Half" would not bother with you, and possbily say "飞出了窗户去!" "fly out the window" and leave without your chance to resolve each other's issues.

September 1, 2009 at 9:16 PMIn Beijing, 饭店 is oftern used to describe a hotel. Eg. 北京饭店 Beijing Hotel. Especially giving directions to taxi drivers. I always found it best to use 饭店 after the name of the hotel. Famous hotel landmarks to get around Beijing include;
北京饭店 bei3jing1 fan4dian4 Beijing Hotel
丽都饭店 li4du1 fan4dian4 Lido Hotel
昆仑饭店 kun1lun2 fan4dian4 Kun Lun Hotel
These are all nice hotels. As landmarks, can help alot to venture out in Beijing. Well known by taxi drivers, so the chance of getting lost is more up to your level of chinese pronunciation. Though if you can manage to talk with taxi drivers in Beijing you are doing very well as the Beijing Hua "Beijing Slur" is particularly interesting to listen to and understand.
If you are searching through Mandarin Chinese websites. Yes, most of the high level hotels would describe themselves as a 酒店.

Love is many things
Love too is confusing. Confusing enough to realise that love is on the way, with us and or has left us, or has just changed its form or format.
A Pure music note, one string for one tuning peg, is that simple. So can love be that simple. Yet love can be so complex like the dreams or illusions that are in this poem. ie people blended with butterflies and cuckoo birds.
So 李商隐 appears to be throwing all the aspects of love into the "same pot" to help make sense of the feelings and aspects of love.
And his partial conclusion could be read at Best is to Accept that all people are looking for love and would do anything to understand and especially do anything to feel the rush of love and as Fleetwood Mac puts it.

Where everyone would love to drown" - Song Title: Sara.
My personal advice. Go for it, pluck the zither, make beautiful heart and soul music. Take the chance on love with all it's intricate workings.

May 7, 2009 at 9:26 PMFrom my own personal experience in Beijing I have heard plenty of excuses given to the managers of the company from Chinese Nationals regarding lateness, lack of work, and doing work incorrectly to "save face" and especially save their work position.
The most outstanding excuse I recall was a real full medical work up certificate from a reknown hospital explaining that the member of staff was unable to stand on their feet for more than 3 hours at a time in order to change their work role inside the same company. Paid Rehabilitation for muscle stress was offered, but quickly refused. The employee eventually resigned for various frustrations with their work role, but the point is that they went to the effort to openly express excuses to their boss.
I find in Modern China the local nationals do understand things have developed to support work position and work benefits. Plenty of MBAs, EMBA courses promoting in ways the power of the individual to strive for success including the modern behaviour to provide an excuss "up front" to your boss or manager.
