A superb expression for all! 以茶代酒/yi3 cha2 dai4 jiu3/use tea as alcohol. Incidentally, you can swap the words and say 以酒代茶/yi3 jiu3 dai4 cha2 if so desired.

It is just more old-fashioned and less flowery than words like 洗手间/xi3 shou3 jian1 or 卫生间/wei4 sheng1 jian1。In fact, we refer to men's and ladies' as 男厕所 and 女厕所。 Rich, 拔/ba2 is a verb which literally means to pull out. Another word using the similar construction is 鞋拔/xie2 ba2/shoe horn.

April 16, 2007 at 3:57 AMPharmine, 堵住了/du3 zhu4 le indicates that it is completely clogged. 住/zhu4 literally means 'stop', 'stay'. It is often paired with verbs that descirbe inaction. For example, 停住/ting2 zhu4/stopped.
