You're right! what you mentioned above is really quite a common and obvious problem of many people from southern China. Here I have some humble tips for your reference, hope that would help. z--like "ds"in "birds" zh--like "j" in "job" c--like "ts"in "cats" ch-like "ch"in "chat" s-- like "s" in "silk" sh- like "sh" in "shape" Practice makes perfect!(shu2neng2sheng1qiao3) Just try to listen and speak time after time, take it easy and you will make it!
