Trouble is knowing whether you're in the ditch or about to fall in another behind you. Wild horses could drive you away from lust and bog you in PC mud, at best, or any kind of addiction or dogma, depending on what you value the most, your brains or your horses. Am I mixing things up? June 26, 2007 at 4:14 PMLet me just add that as such it fits (IMO) the 2nd category "Change in situation", because what changes here is the speaker's mind as he decides to do sth almost simultaneously (at least from a phatic PoV) as he utters it. Is that clear???

June 26, 2007 at 4:07 PMOceanhai, 了 can be used as a near-future markers in conjunction with the verbs indicating that aspect: 要, 快要, 将, 将要, etc. e.g. 我将乘火车去上海了 : I'm going to take the train to Shanghai 我马上走了 : I'm going without delay. So John's comment is valid (you can't just discard that very useful explanation of 啦, I would be puzzled again) I hope I've got it right ;)
