Let's have her and Jenny fight it out to the finish, then we really see who is smooth... :P

It's no surprise Grammar Girl won. She was a lock for that category. Great format, tight podcasts, smooth scripting, catchy score, great voice... She researches all her answers, gives great information seemlessly on a boring subject and makes it interesting. She deserves the ever-growing audience she gets.
In less than a year she completely redefined the art of quality podcasting, and after her first year it continues to grow. A model for success in the 2.0 world.

Sorry but the podcast award systems have lost my trust.
I should have Dug out my dial up modem.
And voted for chinesepod 300+ votes a day!

Double Shucks. They must have had a blog post with the subject "Vote for Grammar Girl" and had more than 100 replies (this is the 100th post here...woo!)
Or they had an automated script on zillions of computers to vote.
Whichever way they won(cheated!:), I gotta now eat my words somewhere around post #50... 不好吃!*sulk*

Yea! Big dissapointment when I realized that Grammar girl had won but then I checked some of her podcasts and understand why. Nice and interesting (as Cpod).
ken,
only two of the prices are announced on Sept 28th, the rest are already given.
We'll try again next year :-)

Actually, I really like "Grammer Girl" because it is also excellent. I can see how it would receive lots of votes. You should try listening to it.

It seems now that they won't announce the results until Sept 28th??? This is messy - they'd said previously they would announce it on the 15th August, now suddenly we gotta wait. What's going on over there?

They said some votes will be asked to be confirmed, but I received one email for each vote. Seems I am not very trustable for their system, hehe. Anyway, I religiously confirmed all of them.
Best of lucks today Cpod!

It's one vote per person per IP.
So on my home network
192.168.1.65 & 192.168.1.64
They don't count, because there addresses my router assigns locally .
Web sites see 86.135.140.172 as my IP, ON ALL COMPUTERS!!
Therefore if my siblings want to vote they have to use a Icafe, Otherwise Both votes could be removed, at the discretion of podcast connect .

I get the confirmation e-mail every time. I wonder if it's related to being in China, or maybe because other people in the same IP range also voted...?

I tested their system for spam a few days ago..
with a disposable email address...
no spam from anyone, just one verification email.
I get lots of spam because my main email address is
bell818@isp.com. And mass email clients find it easy to Guess

For a while I was using a bogus email address because I don't like using my email address around the web (I do have an address for that, but it's all junk mail now), but then I realized it said some votes are verified through email, and sure enough, when I used my gmail account it sent me an email to verify EVERY time.. so I guess we lost a few votes from that. Hmph.
Well, okay, so maybe some other podcasts are doing well. I do make mistakes. 加油!

I have received many, I verify several at once, and the system processes them normally.
Because of high system loads on email servers

Well, i know podcasters in other cats so have
them & some of their fan base voting too.
But Digital Photography Tips from the Top Floor won 2005 & 2006.
Gotta win keep voting .

You know, after voting 5 or 6 times (sorry, didn't get around to it every day), I finally bothered to even look at the sites ChinesePod is up against:
Astronomy Cast
Beer School
ChinesePod
Digital Photography Tips from the Top Floor
Freedomain Radio
Grammar Girl
Hard Core History
Martin Bailey Photography Podcast
PediaCast
Rookie Designer
Ummm....do any of these come close to the need we Chinese learns need to have podcasts for? I mean, all due respect to photography and beer (I think they stole Ken's model to get as far nominated this list, that has to be it)... I mean, i would think a lot of photographers prefer to use books.... maybe listen to a podcast once in a while, but as something regularly? I can't think of a better "Education" reason to use podcasting other than for language learning, and other than Grammar Girl (checked it out but couldn't figure out who it was geared to... just English speakers interested in learning weird grammar rules/reasonings), I don't see such a site. Hopefully CP has nothing to worry about even without us voting more than once. (plus I don't think any of those could have the fan-base as we do here to get them to vote often)
CPod, 加油!

Bazza,
not anymore.
Sometimes I see people folding up "laptops" in the train that easily span two seats and some. A notebook computer with a 19'' or 21'' monitor definately needs its own desk.

August 01, 2007 at 06:04 AMWait wait wait, before we vote any more, I think ChinesePod needs to write a 200 or less (or more) word essay on what they will do with a laptop desk, which is the prize for best Education podcast. :) Ken?

+1 a day from me,

they say You can vote more by using a different computer, with a different IP address.
How messed up is that?

+1 from me for the PodCastAwards.
Are there any lessons with tongue twisters in? I found a website a while ago with some on, there was one about ten stone lions being dead or something.
I'd had real problems trying to enunciate a new phrase to my chinese language partner. (I've duly forgotten what it was now but it had one of the xi, si, shi, or qi, sounds in it and I clearly couldn't get my teeth into it). As a punishment for laughing at me I thought I'd get him back by making him read tongue twisters...
It never happend in the end, but it made my think of my sisters elocution lessons, perhaps reciting tongue twisters along with Cpod dialogues might exercise those muscles we non-native speakers don't have. At least you might have fun imagining all the poddies spluttering impossible phrases while listening.

Ken,
that idea is pure gold. I love experimental shows.
To make it more concrete:
Take a native speaker and a foreigner (e.g. John or Dave), give them a short dialogue. Best served with a tongue twister.
Let them drink half a liter beer each.
Repeat.
Afterwards analyze the effects on:
- grammar
- tones
- overall sillyness
By the way: Voted again.

Thx, Mark. I appreciate that.
It struck me that if you made a quick note here whenever you'd voted it would keep the thread on the top of the Conversations pile, thereby encouraging others to do so. I believe the thing will conclude in 15 days.
