父亲是一个胖子，走过去自然要费事些。我本来要去的，他不肯，只好让他去。我看见他戴着黑布小帽，穿着黑布大马褂，深青布棉袍，蹒跚地走到铁道边，慢慢探身下去，尚不大难。可是他穿过铁道，要爬上那边月台，就不容易了。他用两手攀着上面，两脚再向上缩；他肥胖的身子向左微倾，显出努力的样子。这时我看见他的背影，我的泪很快地流下来了。我赶紧拭干了泪，怕他看见，也怕别人看见。我再向外看时，他已抱了朱红的橘子望回走了。

My father's a big guy, to get there would be quite a bit of effort for him. I wanted to go instead, but he just wouldn't let me. I just had to give into my insistent father. I looked over at my father, in his black cloth cap, black knee-length robe and dark green cotton-padded jacket, teetering his way toward the railway and lowering his way down there, which wasn't too difficult. Yet, the difficult part was climbing up to the platform after crossing the tracks. He tightly placed his hands on the top of the platform, shrinking back his legs, his heavy body tilted slightly to the left. The sight was of a many trying his very best. As I took this scene in, looking at his back, my tears rushed down my face. I rushed to wipe away my tears, afraid of being seen by him, or by any others. When I look out again, he was already on his way back, carrying those bright tangerines.

我说道，“爸爸，你走吧。”他望车外看了看，说，“我买几个橘子去。你就在此地，不要走动。”我看那边月台的栅栏外有几个卖东西的等着顾客。走到那边月台，须穿过铁道，须跳下去又爬上去。

wǒ shuō dào ，“bàba ，nǐ zǒu ba 。”tā wàng chē wài kàn le kàn ，shuō ，“wǒ mǎi jǐ ge júzi qù 。nǐ jiù zài cǐ de ，bù yào zǒudòng 。”wǒ kàn nàbiān yuètái de zhàlan wài yǒu jǐ ge mài dōngxi de děng zhe gùkè 。zǒudào nàbiān yuètái ，xū chuānguò tiědào ，xū tiào xiàqu yòu pá shàngqu 。

I said: "Father, you head off". He looks out of the train and says: "I'm going to buy some tangerines, you stay here, don't go anywhere". Beyond the railing of the other platform, were a couple of vendors waiting for customers. To get to that platform, you had to jump down to the tracks and climb up the other side.

过铁道时，他先将橘子散放在地上，自己慢慢爬下，再抱起橘子走。到这边时，我赶紧去搀他。他和我走到车上，将橘子一股脑儿放在我的皮大衣上。于是扑扑衣上的泥土，心里很轻松似的，过一会说，“我走了；到那边来信！”我望着他走出去。他走了几步，回过头看见我，说，“进去吧，里边没人。”等他的背影混入来来往往的人里，再找不着了，我便进来坐下，我的眼泪又来了。

guò tiě dào shí ，tā xiān jiāng júzi sànfàng fàng zài dìshang ，zìjǐ mànmàn pá xià ，zài bào qǐ júzi zǒu 。dào zhèbiān shí ，wǒ gǎnjǐn qù chān tā 。tā hé wǒ zǒu dào chēshang ，jiāng júzi yīgǔnǎor fàng zài wǒ de pídàyī shàng 。yúshì pūpū yī shàng de nítǔ ，xīnli hěn qīngsōng shìde ，guò yīhuì shuō ，“wǒ zǒu le ；dào nàbiān lái xìn ！”wǒ wàng zhe tā zǒu chūqù 。tā zǒu le jǐ bù ，huí guò tóu kànjiàn wǒ ，shuō ，“jìnqù ba ，lǐbiān méi rén 。”děng tā de bèiyǐng húnrù láiláiwǎngwǎng de rén lǐ ，zài zhǎo bù zháo le ，wǒ biàn jìnlai zuòxia ，wǒ de yǎnlèi yòu lái le 。

As he was crossing the tracks, he first placed the tangerines on the platform. He then slowly lowered himself to the tracks and picked the tangerines back up to walk over. When he got to my side of the track, I rushed to help him. As he and I got back onto the train, he placed all the tangerines on my fur coat. He patted the dirt off his jacket, and looked very satisfied. After a moment, he said to me: ”I am leaving now. Remember to write to me! ”. I looked over as he walked out. After just a few steps, he looked back at me and said "Go back in, your things are unattended". Once he disappeared into the bustling crowd and I could find him no more, I came in and sat down. My tears came again.
