If you drink and drive you're a bloddy idiot...

@shanghai_rocks

I've seen signs in restaurants that say '滑地小心‘ which I 'spose means 'wet floor - be careful!'

As for the kitchen being very slippery, I think I'll leave that up to the experts...

@bodawei

I don't know where to start with my communication difficulties! If I'm having trouble being understood, I usually write the message in Chinese on my phone...and that usually clears things up. I even booked into a hotel room once typing on the receptions computer.

The fact remains that my speaking is still quite terrible!

谢谢

I can't speak highly enough of the CPod team and it's vibrant community. Last month I was in class learning about colours, clothes and directions. Now I'm at home learning about Dinosaurs, Hot Pot and directions (in a cool way).

Like John's explanation of the different forms of 在 - something I probably wouldn't have picked up by myself.

Is there a difference between 听不见 and 听不清?

What kind of restarant makes you cook your own food?

This lesson is an unheralded classic and an absolute must for anyone living in China who loves to indulge in street food!

I visit a little 山西 stall near my house and they sell a bun thing with ham and egg, apparently it's called 双夹,their 鸡肉卷(chicken wrap) isn't bad either.

I also love the 孜然 that was mentioned in the podcast - particularly 孜然土豆鸡丁!I'm not sure how to translate 孜然 either, but I recently went to a Sichuan restaurant with an English menu that translated it as 'Cumin' (pronounced 'comein') which is a member of the parsley family.

You can read more about it from the following link:

Yes. I think repetition is important, especially at the Elementary level, as it helps you remember new vocabulary. But take today's lesson for example, I think the only new vocab item to most seasoned Ellie learners would have been 感恩节。

Xiaophil.

It seems we want different things - I would like more challenging topics at the Elementary level and you want more what might be considered 'beginner level' topics but in more detail and depth at more advanced levels.

ChinesePod to the rescue!!

I'm wondering if the Elementary lessons will soon be going the way of the Newbies...?

That said, I think there is still a bit of life left in the Elementary lessons, and perhaps opposite to xiaophil's comments, maybe you could do some Ellie lessons on some previous Intermediate/Upper-Intermediate topics - opening a bank account and global warming for example?

I found 成都 to be a difficult city to navigate. I don't think they follow any sort of protocol when it comes to naming or numbering streets there.

Like John said in the podcast, there have been many lower level lessons with regard to directions, but at the intermediate level, I'm really looking forward to picking up more key grammar points like using 离 (okay maybe that's newbie territory) and the 'double 了' pattern - something I am in desperate need of!
