I seem to remember reading this article from this site, or it might have been John's Sinosplice site, while a while back about the demise of Cantonese and the supersonic rise of Mandarin...it mentions Flushing 'which now rivals Chinatown as a center of Chinese-American business and political might, as well as culture and cuisine'

January 12, 2011 at 12:41 PMOh, I went to the Chinatown on the Lower East Side - ages ago and I remember seeing for miles ahead, as the general populous seemed really short in that area of town...I hope that's not too stereotypical.
Also it was Chinese New Year and we saw the 舞龙表演, but I wasn't too interested in that stuff in those days. It's funny how your interests/hobbies change over time!
And if I ever go back I will have to summon up the courage to ask for '一体小笼包‘
Most recently, I checked out the Melbourne 唐人街 with a former colleague from Beijing, nothing too special - just a couple of streets filled mainly with restaurants. We found a stall selling 煎饼果子 with 油条 in the middle, we tried ordering in Chinese and got the 啊？response that we usually got while we in China (due to our 'non-standard' Chinese) and the 煎饼果子 wasn't quite how I remembered it...
Anyway, I'm rambling....

January 6, 2011 at 10:13 PMThat's definitely true (about ChinesePod being 'consistent' in terms of difficulty at any given level). I'm trying to make the transition to UI, and have found that the earlier lessons are are lot more 'easier' than the most recent ones, and I think the same is true of the Intermediate lesson set.
Nevertheless, breaking through to a new level is a challenging, and 'transitory' lessons are a good idea!

Also, at the UI level, I am coming across 咱们 more and more. How is it different to 我们？(Is there a difference?)

January 17, 2011 at 2:40 AMI'll just point out that in the PDF says 您怎么称呼?（What should I address you?). Perhaps 'How should I address you?' is more natural...
