I like the dark poems deep with meaning. Way to go.

Without you Pete, Chinese poetry is out of reach for me because here in Oklahoma I don't have a teacher of advanced Chinese. I finished reading all 7 Harry Potter books in Chinese and have learned a lot of Chinese, but no culture. (Stephen Krashen said to read what you would read normally to improve your foreign language skills. He was right big time.) Thanks again.

Harry Potter has similar themes to star trek. Voldamort represents not only evil but slavery to dogmatism and thought control. Professor Umbrigde tried to control the students' access to the truth that Voldamort had returned. Her methods were similar to repressive regimes everywhere. Even so, Harry Potter is widely read in China by children.  Star trek doesn't just address the cold war period. It addressed many themes-homosexuality, tolerance, genecide, interference in primitive cultures. The Captains were frequently faced with difficult nuanced moral decisions. The first interracial kiss occurred on star trek-not a cold war theme but purely an American one.

China needs an introduction to Star Trek the TV shows. Although I have looked for star trek novels in Chinese, I have never found them. The Chinese need a little nuance to their nationalism. Star Trek has encouraged many great thinkers and scientists-Stephen Hawkings for one is a great fan. I could be wrong (i don't live there, so help me with this if i'm wrong), but why hasn't star trek the tv show ever made an appearence on tv in China?

Pete,

You have a great talent to make poetry accessible to everyone. What a great idea for a new show! You single handedly created a new and unique way to look at Chinese poetry. This could also be futher expanded to teach great works of literature. Cpod barely scratched the surface of 红楼梦. I am totally drawn to 书面语小说 and poetry when before I wasn't。Thanks for opening the door.
