March 8, 2008 at 2:26 PMI loved this lesson. I learned a lot of vocabulary I wouldn't have learned in a text book. And that is why I'm a subscriber. Regardless of how I feel about transgendered people, I can discuss the issue in my native tongue. Would you because of your moral value belief system choose to forget any and all vocabulary words in your native language having to do with transgender? That would be like asking to 患老年痴呆症。Thanks Chinesepod for giving me vocabulary that I can use in conversations to argue my moral value belief system with a native speaker of Chinese whether I be to the left or the right of the issue. There are no useless words! As learners of Chinese we must learn them all regardless of our political or religious beliefs. If the Chinese are talking about it, I want to be able to understand them.

February 4, 2008 at 3:45 PMAs a redhead and a step child, I take offense at the opening discussion about third tones. Redheaded step children are not always abused. Where did that saying come from anyway? Although I've heard, "I'd rather be dead than red on the head." I've also heard, "Red on the head, knock me dead." I prefer the latter statement. Just because we account for only 4-6% of the world's population, doesn't mean we should be burned at the stake as witches. And to all the Chinese out there, no, my hair is not dyed and touching it will not bring you luck. :)

January 1, 2008 at 8:24 PMSpeaking of Klingon, does anyone know of an online Chinese book store in which you can order books like Star Trek, Harry Potter or the Last Apprentice in Chinese? I'm working through young adult novels hoping to make it to the adult level someday. However, in Oklahoma I can't find Science Fiction in Chinese. The great Krashen (big wig in the study of language acquisition), says that reading in the target language is a great way to improve one's language ability. Since I'm not in China, combined with Cpod, it's the only way I have available to improve my Chinese.

I can print and copy and paste the two characters correctly in microsoft word from twinbridge and the online dictionary, but it automatically changes the jiang character to luo when I copy it to Chinesepod. Confused! Please reply chinesepod.

January 1, 2008 at 5:02 PMI'm confused between these two characters:将pronounced as luo or lu with the two dots above it and Jiang which will not print or copy from my word processor or on the online dictionary. The upper right side of the jiang character is 夕. In the twinbridge word processor it is seen correctly but when I click on it, it changes to the luo character. When I select it on the online dictionary, which is depicted as the correct Jiang with the 夕 in the upper right hand side, it changes to the luo character 将. Does anyone else have this problem? What is going on with these two characters? One means a general and has six other meanings including 把, and Luo means to rub one's palm along (something long). If you look up jiang it comes up correctly, but prints luo. The dictionary says they are two different characters, but Chinesepod and the online dictionary depict them as the same. please help!

November 26, 2007 at 1:23 PMWhere did the vocabulary go? It just says "save selected vocabulary" but there is no vocabulary. When I checked last night it was there.
