May 12, 2013 at 1:27 PMThe pivot is 我。Pivotal sentence is just grammatical jargon for a type of sentence where one "thing" in the sentence plays the role of both an object of one verb and the subject of the next verb. 我 is the object of 让 (她让我) and also the subject of the phrase begining with 去 (我去邮局寄了一封信)
Hope that makes sense :)

May 12, 2013 at 1:10 PMHi serup,
In this sentence 给 is acting as a preposition (equivalent to the English 'for'). So the Chinglish version would be "I for everyone bought some chocolate". Note the prepositional phrase ("for someone") generally comes before the verb in Chinese, whereas we'd put it after the verb in English.

May 27, 2013 at 11:14 AMHi Podster, here's an entry for 鸟 (diao3).
I suspect until recently 屌 wasn't a very frequently used character (it's not included in some of the Chinese font sets I've downloaded) so probably not in some paper dictionaries (especially of the Chinese-English variety). Talking of niubi, I hear 屌 is now used as an adj. in the same way as 牛屄 by a lot of young Chinese (apparently comes from Taiwan).
