Hi busybees,

Not sure what the ABC dictionary is, but 模板 seems to be the preferred choice of characters, at least on the mainland. As far as pronunciation, the dictionary gives mu2ban3, though lots of people say mo2ban3. I think Greg just slipped up by giving 模 as third tone rather than 2nd which caused the original query.

Hi Tal, It seems to be working for me now. Might be worth having another try.

Hi salvador,

The translation is loose, though it does reflect the feeling of the Chinese. 大龄 here gives the feeling of being "older than others". Here it means the man (although he's still considered a 青年) has reached an age where he really ought to be married (probably in his 30s). You can also use 大龄青年 on it's own.

Hi salvador, you can just think of 男的 as being one word, meaning man. It's very common. You can also use 女的 for woman.

Altogether now...

你说西红柿,但我说番茄...

hmm, doesn't quite work does it?

I think they're basically the same. Maybe some regional differences in which is more commonly used, but on the mainland both seem to be widely used and understood.
