June 1, 2008 at 7:00 PMBack in 2002, when I took my first Chinese class at a uni and decided to attempt to write a letter in Chinese to a boy in China I was supporting through World Vision, I hadn't studied the word for 结婚 so I didn't know how to say I was single, so all I wrote was: 我没有太太。(wo meiyou taitai, I have no wife). Later, when I went to China and showed the letter to a friend, they laught that I said it that way...

I think Britain now needs more city lessons to get more even with the States.... talk about the 城堡 (I live right next to it!) and the Royal Mile, the Holyrood palace, and Arthur's Seat! It's fairy tale land man!

May 7, 2008 at 9:25 AMI know so many Chinese people (usually girls) who are just fearful of cats... and most of them it isn't the cat they are afraid of... it's the hair!! I have yet to figure this out, but my friend who has this fear, when with a hairless cat had no problem. I also had a Chinese friend who was horrified of birds because of feathers, as she said when she was in school a boy tried to tease her with a big feather. Why so easily scared I wonder...

Here is what I have found said: I first remember learning it as: 比萨饼 bǐsàbǐng This podcast says: 批萨 pīsà Otherways I found when searching for pizza on the 'net: 披萨(饼) pīsà 皮萨(饼) písà 匹萨(饼) pǐsà While I don't know how reliable research with Google search result hits is, here is what I found searching the following: 比萨 5,480,000 (way I learned) 批萨 374,000 (ChinesePod's vocab) 披萨 1,120,000 皮萨 585,000 匹萨 912,000 So the first way I ever learned to say Pizza has way more hits... and ironically the way ChinesePod taught us has the least presence on the 'net. Is that just the way to say it in Shanghai?? At least the second character is consistent. :) What way would most Chinese understand, and when writing about Pizza in Chinese, which should I use?

In March I bought a few books to prepare for the HSK on dangdangwang.com, the fee to transport them to Britain was expensive, yet I still haven't received them. They said they couldn't do anything about it.
