May 5, 2008 at 8:28 PMHey, Coke Light....err.. I mean Light487, at least Chinese doesn't have things we do in English like: I want to reCORD a REcord. The phoTOGrapher wants to take a PHOtograph. etc. That is a headache for 2nd language English learners. I just hate when you get 了 pronounced as liǎo (oh yeah, that's another one for you Light... you'll like that one) where in that case is means "end; finish; settle; dispose of" So you may get: 受不了了 shòu bu liǎo le (meaning: "I can't stand it anymore")... hee hee... ... Hey! Where you going! Don't give up on Chinese now! What? 你受不了了吗??? I, uh, was just kidding... there's no such thing in Chinese! (I wish)

May 5, 2008 at 7:43 PMJust finally listened to this lesson. Loved it! I am probably going to do my dissertation on the simplification of Chinese characters... from some aspect or another. Anyway, I didn't read all the posts here (yet so many are deep and helpful in advanced Chinese studies!), but I was wondering: What is Connie's Chinese name in simplified and in traditional? Ever since the move to ChinesePo V3.0 a year ago (dang, I forgot to wish it a happy birthday), we no longer see Jenny's and Connie's name in Chinese for the advanced lessons (before the Advanced lessons had it's own ChinesePod website, all in Chinese... menus, buttons, etc... do hope ChinesePod v4.0 allows a choice of language for the entire site) Anyway... please let me know what Connie's name is in traditional Chinese... really want to see if it is as hard to write as she said in the lesson!

May 5, 2008 at 11:25 AMI just thought it was funny to see "Dr. Zhu" in the graphic... as I believe I, or one of us, called Jenny Dr. Zhu back in the Green Eggs and Ham lesson. Now I want to a whole "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" Lesson... 《一条鱼、两条鱼、红色的鱼、蓝色的鱼》 (doesn't fit the same rhythm as the English does, does it?)

May 4, 2008 at 8:44 PMYes, but siyi, you are putting 没有 before a noun there it is "have no", yet if you put it before a verb, it becomes "have not", so it is very similar to English, just Chinese puts the "not/no" before "have" where in English we put it after: 我没有前 Wǒ méiyǒu qián I have no money. 我没有花前 Wǒ méiyǒu huā qián I have not spent money. (or "I didn't spend money") 花 = huā, (verb) to spend
