Anne, It's natural that you can't hear the third tone there. Here is the explanation : "Attention au "deuxième troisième ton", lorsque le troisième ton est suivi d'une syllabe au premier, au deuxième ou au quatrième ton... la voix descend, comme au début d'un troisième ton, mais elle ne remontera pas." Footnote, p.12, Le Chinois sans Peine, tome 1, La Méthode Assimil Translation: "Beware of the "half third tone", when the third tone is followed by a syllable in the first, second or fourth tone...voice goes down, like in the beginning of a third tone, but will not go up again."

French youngsters often say "c'est trop !" (it's too much!) when they find something 厉害 in the positive sense.

@tage this QW + these two lessons: http://chinesepod.com/lessons/nationalities http://chinesepod.com/lessons/where-are-you-from/ = no need for another QW on that topic, IMO.

xiaohu, you misunderstood my (too) tongue in cheek sense of humour. I totally support you. I was making a fool about some persons who feel they need to explain how irrelevant your problem is to them.

@ xiaohu, Let me make it clear that I don't support your idea, for one of the following reasons: "I learn Japanese, not Chinese" "I am deaf" "I was born yesterday" "I don't use Chinesepod (happy just watching Dashan on CCTV 9)" "I use 21 MP3 players, one for each file of each day of the week" "I prefer to listen to the radio when I drive alone" "My wife talks to me all the time when we drive together" "I don't want to bother Chinesepod staff" "I just don't care about anything these days" "I don't want to be seen as if I were whining" "I learned to be satisfied with what I am being offered in life"

Funny that sometimes when a user sends a complain (which is usely a request for a solution to his/her problem), some users feel the need to step in and explain how irrelevant the problem is to them: "You have that problem when you, drive. Personally I don't drive, so I don't mind." "You have that problem because you use only one MP3 player. Personally I use two, so I don't mind" Their motivation is a complete mystery to me. What harm could it do to them if Chinesepod finds a solution to xiaohu's problem other than selling his car and buying another MP3 player ?

I didn't catch the expression used by Jenny for "apartment complex".
