November 6, 2009 at 5:55 AMinteresting pretzel, your description of the accused as 'prisoner/accused'. is bail offered in chinese law?
and if so, what is the cut off regarding the seriousness of allegations/charges. and does the judge/jury take into account the pesented evidence/heresay if bail/in-house arrest is granted?

November 3, 2009 at 6:03 AMgee whiz! sounds like me on cpod, except for stealing 200rmb from a friendly pakistani and disappearing for a few days. it is tempting though, not the stealing, but a few days on the plonk hanging around some dingy bar on a sunny clean beach. oh, and with internet access!
i'm off.......

yes it would sound natural, but perhaps more so if 你呢? was followed by a more specific reference.
for example, if you are both friends and your friend has greeted you with (最近)怎么样?and you reply 不错、还可以、还好、还不错。you may return the gesture by replying 你呢?、你啊?and add 怎么样. a reference to your friend's previous activity(family, work, projects, activities goals etc) when you last met may be placed before 怎么样。
嘿,小熊,最近怎么样?hei1,xiao3xiong2, zui4jin4 zen3meyang4? hey, little panda, how have you been recently?
还可以啊!你呢?和女友和好了吗?hai2ke3yi3a,ni3ne? he2nv3you3he2hao3lema? not bad at all, what about you? have you made up with your girlfriend?
this would imply that the last time both spoke to each other little panda and his girlfriend were having a disagreement.
i don't know about textbooks getting it wrong. perhaps they are guilty of being focused more on formal speech than colloquiall usage.

all the best mate. A future TV star in the making I'd say. if you ever find yourself down this way, perhaps with the whiskey tasting ;), make sure to pop in for hotpot.
