August 28, 2007 at 2:45 AM@Chris, It's already starting to cool down! The mornings are getting cooler, which is a sure sign of the end of summer/beginning of fall. I find the end of September and most of October to be quite nice, with November iffy and December pretty cold.

August 27, 2007 at 3:48 AM@aeflow, The ABC Dictionary lists it as shāngliang, and in my experience it seems that people don't pronounce the tone on 'liang.' Might it be one of those "official" vs. "real" things?

August 25, 2007 at 11:34 AM@sekrethi, they sound pretty good to me. In fact, compared to a few people I know (a friend's girlfriend springs to mind) the reader for these sentences is pretty slow. The news has a tendency to be much faster than these expansion sentences, and use funny vocabulary.

August 14, 2007 at 8:45 AM这真的是超级难说的一个话题。对大半的美国人来说，第二次世界大战只属于历史教科书中的内容，而跟现代人没有什么关系，但是在中国则保持完全不一样的看法。。。 日本人和中国人我都喜欢。好坏并不是能按照国籍来决定的。

July 27, 2007 at 7:44 AMIt seems to me that the titles are more important in the south than in the north. When I was meeting my wife's family in 东北 a very stripped down version of the entire relationship word system was employed, which was much to my liking.

July 26, 2007 at 9:08 AMMark, I often say 我都忘了 (because I'm forgetful), though I'm not entirely sure when & where I picked that up. I'm pretty sure that 我都结婚了 follows the same pattern, with 都...了 emphasizing what's in between. Maybe you can think of it as "I'm married in all respects (and thus have no need for a dating website)," as strange as that translation sounds.

August 28, 2007 at 2:50 AM@mikeinjubei, not that I've ever needed something like this with my lovely wife, either, but how about: 好了，你不说也行！(hǎole, nǐ bù shuō yě xíng) It seems a little softer than using 算了.
