There are 9 million students sitting Gaokao this year. A sidenote about gaokao: Chinese students often take turtle essence or chicken essence (they come in liquid form in small bottles) before tests. It's said they increase one's focus and boost memory. Performance enhancing TCM.

Yes, the verb for "playing chess" is "下", referring to the action of putting down chess on the board.

Tailor is 裁缝/cáiféng. It's in the supplementary vocabulary.

Yes, this is one of the simpler intermediate lessons. Most lessons in the same level have very similar length and level of difficulty, but we do occasionally mix things up to help learners bridge. This lesson for example, will be very good for an elementary student to try out.

Your hunch is correct. You can put "psych" verbs into the 太...了 pattern. 太喜欢了 and 太感兴趣了 are both correct.
