I did not know that. I only knew the story is a famous folk story passed on for hundreds of years in China.

来 is defintely a second tone. The voice actor was trying to convey a cheerful spirit as the wife came home to her husband. Of course, the mood soon changed. People tend to raise their pitch when expressing excitenment. In Chinese, it could make the tones sound more elevated.

Yes, it is neutral tone in dictionary. But it's also a borderline muted forth tone, which is known as "ruo4du2", or a muted sound. It's not exactly a neutral tone, but very similar, The forth tone is more pronounced as "ruo4du2" than a neutral tone. You hear both in real life. But don't worry too much about it. The neutral tone and "ruo4du2" sound pretty similar.

The dialect lessons are an experiment we did. We have a series of 12 Shanghainese lessons. We don't have immediate plans to add to the collection or expand to other dialects. However, enjoy the ones we have.

看过西游记的人一定最同情孙悟空,永远被唐僧错怪。

Some of the early lessons do not conform to the level standards we have defined and use now. This is certainly a hard elementary lesson. Start with lessons produced from 2007 and you should have less of this problem.

I just switched from Google Nexus One to iPhone. Have to say I prefer my Android device since I heavily rely on Gmail services and the freedom to download apps without having to set up an account.
