May 28, 2007 at 4:05 PMBus stops in Shanghai are so great, because many of them have a cool big board that shows the route, but more importantly, it has 2 narrow mirrors on the side for people to check themselves out while waiting. Or is it? At least that's what I've been using them for.

May 28, 2007 at 3:00 AMLantian, 到底怎么了 means 'what exactly is going on'.到底 expresses extreme concern or curiosity. You are very correct about the pressuring aspect of the word. It is almost like you are forcing an answer. In most of my personal experiences, I don't respond to 到底 because it is often used in situations where I'd rather be left alone.

May 28, 2007 at 4:10 PMOdadrek, “了”放在中间不是绝对错，可是就像你说的，这个用法不自然。你可以把“了”放在句子的最后。"不知道为什么西方人停止吃器官了。" 但是中文的语言习惯不会像英文用“停止”这个动词。我们会说“不吃器官了”。
