May 31, 2007 at 5:25 PMalexyzye, In China culturally, it is considered not very polite for a student to ask the teacher to 举个例子. In fact, this applies to junior and senior in general. I guess 'give an example' has a nuance of request or even command, therefore not very respectful to use for someone more senior (age or ranking). What we say instead is 我不懂/I don't get it or 能请你举个例子吗?/Could I ask you to please give an example?/ We so like to beat around the bush.

May 30, 2007 at 12:08 PMOdarek, 我看过有人把 “geek”音译成 “奇客”，但是这个翻译好像等于没译。（不过“奇”这个部分还是挺表达意思的）。你觉得“科技呆子”怎么样？ Tamayito, “思想缺钙”是一种很新的用法，比喻缺少思想和精神。缺钙就发育得不健康,这里用在思想上，也是很形象的说法。

I suspect you know Connie better than you think. She is the voice behind many cpod dialogues and most remarkly that of Lili. She is also a brilliant member of our academic team who in Ken's words 'extrapolates the lesson' for poddies. Franch, 辨色力 means the ability to tell/distinguish colours. Note the correct character is 辨, which means to 'judge or distinguish'. 辩 like Laorui says means to 'debate or argue'.

Lantian, 目中无人is a metaphor for utter arrogance. It vivid describes those so arrogant that they think no one is worthy of their attention. For example, 刘翔目中无人, (except eyes for Lili.)
