You can say 乡村小镇/xiang1 cun1 xiao3 zhen4 for 'one horse town'. Or a great chengyu 弹丸之地/dan4 wan2 zhi1 di4. 弹丸means the stone used in ancient Chinese weapon, roughly like a bullet. 弹丸之地literally means a place the size of a bullet.

You bring up an interesting point. I find that online games are even more pervasive in smaller cities where entertainment options are more limited.

October 31, 2008 at 2:15 AMThe online game industry in China is seen almost like the gambling industry elsewhere, charged with moral accusations. I watched an interview with an online game tycoon. He was grilled for making a fortune out of people's addiction. He might be a loser on the show, but the money keeps rolling in.
Much like a drug rehab, there are internet rehabs in China. Besides psychological counselling, they also get military style discipline and are absolutely cut off from the internet.

Bu in bu make sense is 4th tone. 2nd tone is rather unpronounceable if you try. A good test for determining whether bu is 4th or 2nd tone.

October 30, 2008 at 5:04 AMI find there are more counterfeit 20's in China, perhaps because people are more careful with 100's and check more thoroughly. The only time I got a counterfeit was a 20's note. I folded it into a paper bird.

November 2, 2008 at 3:52 PMIt might be a bit surprising, but my generation in China grew up on Smurfs/蓝精灵/lan2 jing1 ling2 and Ninja Turtles/忍者神龟/ren3 zhe3 shen2 gui1. The early and mid 80's saw quite liberal policies in China. Dynasty, Charlie's Angels and Growing Pains were all imported, dubbed and became extremely popular in China.
