June 11, 2007 at 5:53 AMThe easiest way to get across that you are vegetarian is 不吃肉 (bu4chi1rou4) literally, 'don't eat meat'. this will usually get most dishes without meat, except down south where pork is considered a vegetable. If your vegan, probably better to cook for yourself.

June 3, 2007 at 1:44 PMPiers; settle down a little mate. People here are not arrogant (well, I suppose we all are sometimes). Some people have been on here for a while a form a sort of community, They are not posing to show off to the newbies but to talk to friends (where do you join the line between practice and showing off?). Don't feel threatened by this, give it time and you'll be there too. Besides, writing the same thing 3 times is tedious, especially when there are so many tools to help you understand (hanzibar, etc.) Learning Chinese is fun, not a fight! 好好学习，天天向上
