xiaohu, I am *not* with you and your idea. For me the Fix and the lesson are disjoint entities that I store on different MP3-players, that I enjoy in different environments, in a different order, and in a different frequency. The only time I listen to them together is when I first work through the podcast (non-mobile). After that ways part. Different learners, different learning styles, obviously. And yes, I am a paying subscriber.

feilipu, Chengyus are "ordinary vocabulary" and exactly used that way - both in spoken and written language. Knowing them is absolutely crucial and the weight on them in the Advanced lessons is just right. In what regard do you thing Intermediate and Upper Intermediate lessons do not reflect "odinary Chinese conversations"?

MSG carries one of the 5 basic flavours that can be distinguished by the human tongue: Umami (next to sweet, sour, bitter, salty). Mandarin: 鲜味 (xiān wèi)

According to my wife *good* Chinese cooks and restaurants do not use MSG, because in China its use is supposedly regarded as a sign that the cook does not meet the desired taste... Cornelia, Glutamat=MSG is actually pretty popular in our mothercountry in its incarnation "Maggi" (Maggi Würze). ;)

Interesting. My online dictionary tells me that "toque" (also "tuque") denotess a special kind of woman's hat or - in Canadian English - a hat in general. http://dict.leo.org/ende?lp=ende&lang=de&searchLoc=0&cmpType=relaxed§Hdr=on&spellToler=on&search=toque+&relink=on Marriam Webster is more specific: "a warm knitted usually pointed stocking cap" http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=tuque Also listen to the pronounciation here as it is tricky. More in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuque Dict.cn translates "toque" into Chinese as 无边女帽 or 头巾猴 http://dict.cn/search/?q=toque
