December 19, 2007 at 6:46 AMThe word I learned for "sleep in" last fall was 睡懒觉 shuìlǎnjiào (literally "sleep lazy") Because that is I announced to do in my last holiday. Unfortunatelly even with the help of a time difference of 7 hours I did never manage to sleep in beyond than 7 AM. Years getting up at 5 AM or earlier during the weekdays and between 6 and 7 AM on the weekend (thanks to the kids) did the job. So I am definately now the opposite of a 夜猫子 - whatever that is in Chinese (or English). :)

December 16, 2007 at 10:42 AMAfter reading the Expansion sentences I discussed the difference between 提示 and 暗示 with my wife。 Result: 暗示 is more like a personal hint/suggestion, while 提示 encompasses all sorts of hints and messages， including public ones. Or as my wife said it: 暗示是提示的一种。

December 19, 2007 at 2:43 PMObviously when referring to small boys 厉害 is negative and positive at the same time. There always seems to be some admiration resonating in that term. Regarding similar phenomenons in English: When I was participating in an exchange student program with the US in 1988, the most prevalant positive word used by teenagers was "wicked". I looked it up those days and found that it is actually supposed to mean "evil"...
