"oneself", “自己”，it may be "他自己" (himself), or "你自己"(yourself) "我自己"(myself)

June 4, 2009 at 8:58 AM@rjberki, "I taught myself" and "I teach myself", we'll say “我自学”，（simple present and simple past are the same）"wǒ zìxué"，it'll be weird to hear "我教本人了", actually, we never say that! "本人" is not so frequently used in oral Chinese.

June 2, 2009 at 6:15 AMLearning Chinese is fun, and I enjoy the process much better than the result. I like reading the ancient stories and anecdotes.
Someone asked me:" why are you studying English?" At the very beginning, I just wanted to read some original books and watch some classic movies like Gone With the Wind......I'm still doing that now and thanks to the books and movies, my English is definitely improved!
I would like to buy a hamburger! LOL! OMG!

You're right, I majored in English literature and linguistics at university! It is a really popular major here in China. (easy job-hunting)

June 5, 2009 at 6:56 AM@cinese, 东北dialect is actually, not the best 普通话 I've ever heard. You can hear the best 普通话 in 廊坊（láng fáng） and 承德（chéng dé），Hebei province. There is more or less some accent, like 儿化音 in 东北话。
