August 14, 2009 at 8:55 AM@xiaophil, "人员" can not stand alone, and one cannot say "我是一个人员” , we never say that. And There are some examples, "工作人员", "人员调动”,“值班人员”...gōngzuò rényuán", "rényuán diàodòng”,“zhíbān rényuán", you can say "我是这里的工作人员" Wǒ shì zhèlǐ de gōngzuò rényuán, or "我是这里的值班人员" Wǒ shì zhèlǐ de zhíbān rényuán. So, "人员" always collocate with other words.

August 14, 2009 at 3:16 AM@xiaophil, thanks! We'll fix the PDF later! You can say both of them,
Where do you work? 你在哪家公司工作(ni3zai4na3jia1gong1zuo4)?
你在哪家公司上班(ni3zai4na3jia1shang4ban1)?Actually, “上班” is more common in colloquial Chinese.
工人 (gong1ren2): worker - exactly, this is the word for people who do physical labor. Eg, the workers in mass manufacturing factories, or construction workers
雇员 (gu4yuan2): employee - yes, employees work in some place, most of the time, they work in an office building, or shopping mall, supermarket...(they may be redcap...)
职员 (zhi2yuan2): staff member -They are low-mid level office workers. 职员 can also be called 雇员. But not all 雇员 can be called 职员.
人员 (ren2yuan2): staff - It can indicate anyone that is employed, regardless of their field of business, their different positions. We have this "工作人员"..., commonly used.
Is it clear? :-)

You can build up a group about Chinese culture and language. Then post. But in lesson discussion, off-topic discussion is not encouraged. Just be considerate to our learners!)
You can also go to Activity Stream to share!
谢谢你!
