August 10, 2009 at 7:22 AMOne of my friends told me: the best way to get to know a girl is to intentionally leave her a really good impression. "给她留下很好的印象” Gěi tā liúxià hěn hǎo de yìnxiàng.

August 10, 2009 at 3:15 AM@mikeinewshot,@9:40, the whole sentence is like this: "其实也是国家意识到人口老龄化以后采取的一些应对的办法", Qíshí yěshì guójiā yìshi dào rénkǒu lǎolínghuà yǐhòu cǎiqǔ de yīxiē yìngduì de bànfǎ.

August 7, 2009 at 9:32 AM@joeborn, there is no sunjunctive mood in Chinese, so when someone say "我希望每天考試 and 你爺爺也不希望看到你這樣", we'll understand that by saying "我希望每天考試", the speakers didn't mean it. But as for "你爺爺也不希望看到你這樣", the speakers mean it. (It doesn't need context. Because it's known that 希望每天考试的人 are nuts! )
Oh! English subjunctive mood! Confusing...

August 11, 2009 at 9:22 AM@stevemisch,We use "他“ directly before "妈,爸,老婆,老公,爷爷,奶奶,家...relatives and close friends". "他的” can be used before everything including relatives and close friends.
Here is a list of "他/我/你/她+” with high frequency:
他妈妈 tā māma
他爸爸 tā bàba
他哥哥 tā gēge
他姐姐 tā jiějie
他家 tājiā
她老公 tā lǎogōng
他老婆 tā lǎopo
他同事 tā tóngshì
他朋友 tā péngyou
