August 19, 2009 at 9:26 AM@jaimemayo, good question, "有没有啤酒" is the same to "有啤酒吗?" it's a general question in Chinese, and "yes" or "no" is expected,“有没有”,“是不是”,“去不去”...are really common ways to ask questions, the "不“ in the middle has nothing to do with the meaning of "no". They can not be sepetated this way. And generally, "no" means both "不是” and "没有”,it depends on the question, if the question is "你有没有啤酒”,then "没有" is the answer; If asked "你是学生吗?", you can say "不是".
And "Don't you have beer"? is a disjunctive question, but "有没有啤酒?" is put in a straight way, so the translation is "do you have beer?"

August 19, 2009 at 3:28 AM@bababardwan, well, "半夜", midnight, (middle of the night) actually refers to a period of time, from about 11:00-the dawn breaks, but this is not an fixed definition. It depends, sometimes you can hear the older generation talk about "深更半夜", but it turns out only about 10:30PM.
And we say "前半夜” and "后半夜" as well, “前半夜”,from the minute when darkness falls to 0:00, and "后半夜”,from 0:00 to the dawn breaks.

You still have a week left before the test and you've already finished studying for it?
你還有一個禮拜才考試,你現在已經都學(複習)完了?
I only just got up and you want me to do the chores now!
我才(剛)起床,你就要我做家務!

August 20, 2009 at 3:32 AM@jweissgerber, 1) Thanks, we'll fix that later. And, "了" always follows a verb to indicate the action is finished. But the sentence is supposed to be concise, "已经” has been simplified to "已", so "了" can be omitted.
2)入住,“check in”,you're right! And we'll fix it later.
