May 4, 2008 at 8:36 AMHello Amber, Thank you very much for your help! I will learn the "cookie" example by heart! This is really something i have to know... i am so addicted to sweets ;-)! So may i say to a collegue at work: 这个颜料一定是石青吗？我们拿样品比较好！ (its "to take a sample" in english, i wanted to ask about this again because i thought maybe there is another collocation used in chinese... or another "take" 拿 is the only one i learned by now ;-)...) Thanks again, Gesang P.S.: I found 石青 for azurite ...can you confirm? You (or anybody out there?!?) dont happen to know a good internet source for the names of pigments and earth colours? There are either no entries in the dictionaries, or so many translations that i am never sure which one would be the best to use...

May 1, 2008 at 5:49 PMhello...dusting off an old lesson... ;-) and asking for vocab help: Is 样品 used in same various ways as english "sample"... like if i take a sample of a material to analyze it in the laboratory...would this also be a 样品 and would this also be the verb for "to take a sample"? thanks, gesang

April 25, 2008 at 1:46 PMlight, thanks for your thoughts on this, i agree with you on the context issue, and what you are saying about chinese language...oh, and i didn't mean to say this expansion sentence might be written wrong..i had cases similar to this before, and sometimes there were other possibilities to express yourself which, for me to use them, fitted better on various occasions... somtimes there are not and you have to learn it as an expression or collocation..this was mainly what i wonder about...

April 25, 2008 at 12:41 PMIs there another way to express "when"? It might be a personal impression, and tell me if i just have to take it like this and get used to it.. But when i read the expansion sentence: 你们什么时候分手了？ It sounds like "which time" in terms of time of day... did you break up... and you dont expect to get the answer: "at 3 o'clock!" when you ask "when" here, right?;) Any suggestions ...or correction to my thoughts...?

May 4, 2008 at 9:25 PMNo Brent, this one is fine, trust me! Lot of English talking and short chinese sentences... the focus is on differences in accents (Beijing vs. Taiwan vs. Shanghai) and its really interesting! You should give it a try!
