My modest dictionnary has it that the first shou, that which you favor in daily use, is 1st tone, and it seems to me that it involves a willful action of receiving sth, whereas shou4's other meanings imply that it is "suffered"
I'm no tong1cai4 though, so if a really competent laoshi could help, bravo à tous
