November 26, 2013 at 3:42 AMI know two "older" people who use the character recognition on the handheld devices(smart phone, tablet) to choose the characters for texts, but have never seen anyone in the office use this method on the computer.

November 18, 2013 at 3:52 AM牛排? 牛排带走?Unfortunately in China you need to specify which type you want, the kind that is too tough to chew, or the type that is somehow tenderized to an unnaturally soft texture. 羊排 或 猪排都比较好。

October 28, 2013 at 10:33 PMI once went to a meeting with an important supplier, and one of the girls in our group was wearing a T恤 that said "Little Miss Jailbait". I was totally ashamed, but no one else said anything, and she wore it again the next day...

October 16, 2013 at 11:35 PMCut him some slack. He came over on two week notice, had just got off the airplane, did not even know his apartment address, and was dropped off in front of Gubei 家乐福 the day before October holiday. The funny thing was that the drivers thought he was crazy because he went to 家乐福on a very busy day and didn't even buy anything.

October 15, 2013 at 10:42 PMA 老外 in China without a cellphone is in a pretty pitiful situation. A previous boss of mine, on arrival to China, had the driver take him to 家乐福 to pick up some essentials, and left his cellphone in the car. Once he realized that he had no way to contact his driver(or anyone else) he had a panic attack and ran out of the store. Luckily after a period of time, the driver rescued him.

October 8, 2013 at 3:42 AMThe altitude really is an issue, and you need to take it easy. Lessons learned -At JiuZhaiGou the bus takes you to the top and you work your way down. Not a good idea to jump off the bus and immediately do the primieval forest hike. At Huanglong I opted to walk up and back down without buying a lift ticket. Once inside the entrance gate I took out a breakfast bar and quickly discovered that I could not chew and walk at the same time. At the airport the departure flight was delayed, so I decided to lug my bag around with me and look at the shops, but I had to stop to rest. They even have an "oxygen room". Can't wait to go to Tibet.
