My understanding of this sentence is that

别 - is "don't"

忘 - is "forget"

and

了 - is a 'particle.' If a thing in a Chinese sentence changes its state somehow, then you use 了. It's a grammar thing. Here we're talking about the future, where there's a possible change of mental state (i.e. remembering changing to forgetting).

That said, people say this sentence /all the time/. Especially in familiar contexts, like with close family and stuff.

Actually, in English you can be "green with envy", but in Chinese, what I've heard is if your eyes are 'red' (眼红了) then that means envious or infuriated. The difference in understanding of how colours relate to emotions and personalities is pretty cool, IMHO. :)

I've heard that sometimes a lower-frequency word for green (青) can be used to describe how noob someone is, but I've only ever read that in dictionaries, and I've never heard someone actually say it.

I still don't know how the colour green relates to emotions or personalities in Mandarin, though. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in!

我还记得我前一个中文老师提到了喝酒这个话题。还挺有趣呢！

他又说到“劝酒”这个词。“劝酒”的意思大概是逼别人喝酒。我鼓励这个老师多教我们一些劝酒的方法，但是他委婉得谢绝了。

ChinesePod会不会教我们一些劝酒的手段啊？不是帮我们妨碍别人的策略，就是帮我们“助兴”啊！是不是？哈哈！

Developing a knowledge of both the joys and hardships related to life in China is important. I feel with lessons like this, I get a sense of balance that I don't get in western media or Chinese text books. I hope lessons like this will have a positive effect on how impoverished people in China are treated by travellers, exchange students and expats. :)

I know what you mean. When native speakers speak, sometimes the final consonants in words trail off a bit. When you get more accustomed to the sounds of these words, you'll start to hear it more clearly.
