December 14, 2013 at 8:54 PMI'm a Canadian who visited San Fran back in January, and met a bunch of Chinese people on a boat going around Angel Island and Alcatraz in the harbour. It's a really beautiful city, and the people I met there were all really nice. Lots of Chinese tourists - it's true!
I heard a few stories about unequal treatment of early Chinese immigrants on Angel Island... I was wondering if that topic ever comes up when you speak with Chinese people down there. If you do, what did you say about it?

In the last sentence of your first paragraph, why would a 'time location' phrase not have anything to do with location?
Also, in the lesson it sounded like:
1. If a verb is affecting a duration, it goes after the verb.
（如：我学中文七年了）
2. If a verb is negating a duration, it goes before the verb.
（如：好久不见，我十几年没回来）

December 13, 2013 at 7:06 PMI think the reason we can say 他是一名海军 is because of how the word 海军 is constructed.
This is how I understand it: you can decompose the word 海军 to 海洋 and 军人. But there isn't a readily apparent way to deconstruct the word 学校 in a way that it sounds like a person.
I dunno if this is esoteric for the intermediate level, or even if I'm on the right track at all... Any feedback would be awesome... :)

我现在是多伦多市民。我听说我这边的人是因为交税的问题就让他上任。
对了，David，请不要把福特市长作为代表。他是一位很特别的奸商。其实，万一人在这边口出狂言，一般来说人还会把他的话当真的。再说，那件吸毒的事还跟一件谋杀案有关。我想他很有可能他跟这件是有直接的关西。
我每次上班都会听到同事对这边的政府多么的失望。虽说跟一些其他的国家比，加拿大的情况还好，但是差距开始缩小了。
我下一次去唐人街一定会用很多在这儿学的生词啊！哈哈哈！谢谢！
