September 1, 2012 at 4:38 AMI haven't followed QW for a long time, so I'm not sure if the dialogue tab is meant to accurately transcribe sentences from the lesson but the first one:
was missing a couple of components:
I think from memory it doesn't have to be verbatim as it's more for instruction, but the main reason I'm interested is because of this missing 不是....am I correct in thinking that having it in there would not have changed the meaning anyhow [the 不 not changing it to the opposite meaning here] as it was being used rhetorically [as in, " is it not the case that..." ] ?

"something along the lines of how we use 'at best', correct? (ie 'at best they are the same - 起码一样大‘)"

August 25, 2012 at 12:47 AM"I always thought it was "pearler", as in a play on the word pearl"
yeah, I knew you could spell it either way, but it is precisely for the reason that "pearler" makes one think of "pearls" that I avoid that spelling. I guess I don't appreciate pearls enough or it sounds a bit girly, but it weakens it a bit for me and doesn't sound as Aussie. On the other hand, "purler" has a similar spelling to "burl" as in "give it a burl" another thing you might do playing cricket and may even result in a purler [yeah, I like your examples and I suspect I'm showing my age here...defs something I heard more as a kid].
