I'm guessing that perhaps what you mean is that the word for coffee originated in Turkey with kahveh and came to Mandarin that way [or via one of the other languages you mentioned ] before eventually arriving at coffee in English [and thus implying that perhaps "coffee" is a transliteration of the Mandarin, or from Mandarin via another language. Ok, I see now you are not saying it's not a transliteration though, are you, because if it came from Turkish it would still be a transliteration. I guess you're just saying it's not a transliteration of the English word "coffee". I had been under the impression that coffee originated in what we now know as Ethiopia and arrived in Turkey later, so I guess words for it may go even further back. It does raise an interesting question though. How many transliterations are there in Chinese...but more to what I wanted to raise...what is the percentage of those transliterations that come from English, and from other languages?
