Are the Kunlun mountains the origin of the word for insects in Chinese then? Did plagues originate there? or is the other way around..named for having a lot of insects ..or just a coincidence?

癞蛤蟆 is an interesting word with the 癞 meaning scabies or skin disease and蛤蟆 can mean either frog or toad. Thus it looks like 癞 is distinguishing that it's a toad and not a frog..that you can tell because it's wartlike skin is not so nice as say the smooth green treefrogs.

犁地的犁 is interesting as it looks like all elements of the character could contribute to the meaning...禾 the rice plant..the thing you hope to grow,

刂the knife cutting through the soil, and 牛 pulling the plow I guess, yet yellowbridge says the 利 is phonetic...good choice of phonetic then I say. Is it possible for the phonetic to contribute to the meaning...have dual function...and if so, is there a name for such an element?

I guess if you 拉 something, you're just pulling it [perhaps unsuccessfully] but if you 拔 it you actually get it out [almost like a combination of 拉，把，and 拿]，对吧？
